Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive skin-exfoliation procedure designed to treat sun damage, scars, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. In addition to its cosmetic benefits, microdermabrasion helps to enhance circulation and lymph flow. Results are immediately visible, and there is no downtime for the patient, who can immediately resume regular activities. Performed in-office, microdermabrasion does not require anesthesia, and can be combined with other procedures such as chemical peels or laser treatment. Microdermabrasion is a much less invasive procedure than dermabrasion, which is used to treat more serious skin problems. Dermabrasion, in which several layers of skin are removed, is considered a surgical treatment. THE MICRODERMABRASION PROCEDURE During the microdermabrasion procedure, which is usually performed by an aesthetician, a handheld device is used to transmit tiny crystals of aluminum oxide across the targeted treatment area. The crystals and dead skin are then suctioned away with a vacuum tool, revealing fresh underlying skin. A treatment session can last from five to 60 minutes. The results of a single microdermabrasion treatment are temporary. For continued improvement, treatment should be repeated every 2 to 4 weeks. RISKS OF MICRODERMABRASION Microdermabrasion is considered safe for all skin types, and is appropriate for Asian and dark-skinned patients who may be at risk for skin discoloration with other types of treatment. There are no serious risks associated with microdermabrasion, although some patients experience mild redness and irritation, and patients older than 70 may have a slightly escalated risk of bruising and skin abrasions. Avoiding sun exposure after microdermabrasion is important because it may have removed some of the skin‘s natural protection. In patients who have a history of cold sores, undergoing microdermabrasion may reactivate the virus that causes them. In those cases, avoiding treatment around the lip area and/or taking preventative antiviral medication prior to treatment may be recommended.

Cellulite is a cosmetic skin condition involving the accumulation of fatty deposits under the skin. It presents as areas of dimpled or puckered skin, most often appearing on the thighs, hips, buttocks and abdomen. This condition affects nearly 8 out of 10 women over the age of 20, as well as some men. Women more commonly develop cellulite because of the way fat is distributed in the lower half of the female body. Cellulite appears to have a genetic component since individuals who have family members with cellulite are more prone to develop the problem. CAUSES OF CELLULITE Cellulite, may develop for several reasons, including such factors as: Loss of skin elasticity due to aging Weight gain, as during pregnancy Poor diet Fad dieting Slow metabolism Lack of physical activity Hormonal changes Dehydration Excessive body fat Type and tone an individual‘s skin TREATMENT OF CELLULITE While not of medical concern, cellulite is bothersome to many people who may feel self-conscious about wearing shorts or a bathing suit. Fortunately, there are treatments available to reduce the appearance of cellulite and to help patients restore their skin to its original smooth texture. In some cases, home remedies may be all that is required. Since cellulite tends to be less noticeable on darker skin, applying a self-tanner may make the bumps and dimples on fair skin less noticeable. There are many over-the-counter treatments advertised to treat cellulite, but research has shown that most do not live up to their advertised claims. Fortunately, there are lifestyle changes that can help the appearance of the skin and improve the self-confidence of those affected with this condition. The simplest approach to reducing cellulite is to lose weight through a healthy diet and regular exercise. Other treatments are provided by physicians and may include: Laser or light therapy Massage Herbal wraps Mesotherapy, treatment of the middle layer of the skin Dietary supplements Liposuction RISKS AND BENEFITS OF CELLULITE TREATMENTS Some cellulite treatments involve risks as well as visible benefits. Certain individuals with circulatory problems cannot use cellulite creams. Others may be allergic to such products. The positive aesthetic effects of some treatments, such as massage and body wrapping, may be short-lived. While the results of certain procedures, such as laser treatments or liposuction, may be highly successful, they also may occasionally cause problems such as indentations or fluid accumulation in skin tissues, or the long-lasting appearance of bruises.

LATISSE® eyelash enhancer is the first and only U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved cosmetic treatment for increasing the length, thickness and darkness of eyelashes. Available only through prescription, it is applied once a day to the base of the upper eyelashes. Results may be apparent within four weeks; full results take sixteen weeks. Exactly why LATISSE liquid solution causes eyelashes to grow is unknown. However, its active ingredient, bimatoprost, seems to increase the number of hairs in, and the duration of, a hair follicle‘s growth period. The result is longer and fuller lashes. Once LATISSE treatment is discontinued, its benefits gradually end. APPLICATION OF LATISSE SOLUTION LATISSE solution is applied at night. Contact lenses and makeup are removed, and skincare products applied, before using the LATISSE solution. To prevent contamination, the LATISSE solution is applied with a single-use disposable applicator. The applicator, which is coated with one drop of solution, is applied to the base of the upper eyelid, at the lash line. The applicator is moved from the inside of the lash line to the outside. Excess solution is blotted to prevent its spreading to other areas. A separate applicator is used for each eye. Contact lenses can be put back in 15 minutes after LATISSE treatment. CANDIDATES FOR LATISSE TREATMENT Anyone who wants longer, fuller and darker eyelashes may be a candidate for LATISSE treatment. Those who have eye infections, or broken or irritated skin on their eyelids, or who use products for elevated intraocular pressure, should not undergo LATISSE treatment. A doctor-performed full medical history is taken prior to the start of LATISSE treatment. SIDE EFFECTS OF LATISSE TREATMENT The common side effects of LATISSE treatment end when treatment ends. Side effects include the following: Eye itchiness Eye redness Skin-darkening Eyelid redness Eye irritation Eye dryness There is one potential serious side effect of treatment. According to the manufacturer‘s website, LATISSE treatment “may cause increased brown iris pigmentation of the colored part of the eye which is likely to be permanent,” although its occurrence is “very infrequent.”

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription drug that, when injected, temporarily paralyzes muscles. It contains a purified and safe form of botulinum toxin A, which is produced by the microbe that causes botulism. Manufactured by Allergan, Inc., it is used to treat permanent furrows and deep wrinkles in the skin that are formed by the continual contraction of facial muscles. In addition to its cosmetic applications, it is used to treat a number of medical problems, including excessive sweating, overactive bladder, neck spasms, crossed eyes, chronic back and jaw pain, and migraines. APPLICATIONS FOR BOTOX COSMETIC Although originally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of eye and muscle spasms, BOTOX Cosmetic was quickly recognized for its cosmetic value. Properly placed injections of BOTOX Cosmetic block nerve impulses sent to muscles, weakening them to the point where they cannot contract, and temporarily eliminating moderately severe furrows and lines. BOTOX Cosmetic is used to treat the following: Forehead furrows Frown lines Crow‘s feet Skin bands on the neck According to Allergan, BOTOX Cosmetic has been “extensively researched, with approximately 2500 studies.” BOTOX COSMETIC PROCEDURE AND RESULTS Using a very fine needle, BOTOX Cosmetic is injected directly into facial muscles that are causing furrows and lines. Receiving the injections requires no anesthetic, but some doctors choose to numb the area to be injected with ice packs or a topical anesthetic cream. Results can usually be seen within a few days of treatment, and typically last up to four months, although areas that are treated on a regular basis may retain results longer. Injections should be given only by qualified medical professionals. SIDE EFFECTS OF BOTOX COSMETIC Injection-site side effects of BOTOX Cosmetic are usually mild and temporary, and include the following: Pain Infection Inflammation Tenderness Swelling Redness Bleeding Bruising Normal activities may be resumed immediately after receiving injections.

One of the most flattering things of a person’s profile is having a chiseled, defined chin. If you have excess fat under your chin or a double chin, then you may feel a bit self-conscious about your profile and overall appearance. But, unless you want to undergo surgery, you may think that you are stuck with your double chin. One thing that you may not realize is that you have another option to choose from including an injection called Kybella. WHAT IS KYBELLA? Kybella is an FDA approved injectable that is designed to help destroy fat cells under the chin. Once Kybella is injected into the fat under the chin it works to dissolve the fat and leave you with a more defined profile. HOW MANY KYBELLA TREATMENTS WILL I NEED? During your initial consultation with our staff, we will better be able to determine just how many treatments you will need. You may receive a total of six treatments, but on average, patients see visible results in just two to four treatments spaced one month apart. IS KYBELLA RIGHT FOR ME? Typically, Kybella is good for patients who are otherwise healthy and who: Are bothered by the fat under their chin Feel like their double chin makes them look older or heavier set than they actually are Don’t want to go through surgery Eat well and exercise a lot but can’t get rid of their double chin HOW DOES KYBELLA WORK? The main ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid which works to naturally breakdown and absorb dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella works to destroy the fat cells and give patients a noticeably thinner profile. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TREATED WITH KYBELLA? Kybella has been the central focus in over 20 clinical studies in which more than 1600 people were treated. HOW LONG DOES KYBELLA LAST FOR? One of the many benefits of Kybella, is that because it works to actually destroy existing fat cells, results should be permanent and no further treatment may be necessary for maintenance. IS KYBELLA EXPENSIVE? The cost of Kybella varies from provider to provider but if you want to save money on the overall cost of Kybella then enroll in the Brilliant Distinctions Rewards Program which will allow you to earn points on each treatment and redeem them for savings on future treatments. WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF KYBELLA? The most common side effects of Kybella are swelling, pain, numbness, bruising, redness, and hardness around the treatment site. Additionally, some patients experience problems such as ulcers, hair loss, bruising, trouble swallowing, injury to the jaw that can cause an uneven smile or facial weakness, and necrosis around the injection site. Does Kybella sound like something that you are interested in learning a little more about? Schedule your Kybella consultation and call our office today!

Sculptra® Aesthetic injectable is used to reverse the signs of facial fat loss that occur with aging. By restoring collagen, which decreases as the body ages, it fills out shallow-to-deep wrinkles and folds that run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds). It is not appropriate for use in the eye and lip areas. Sculptra Aesthetic‘s main component is an alpha hydroxy acid called poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which is a safe and long-lasting synthetic (artificially created), biocompatible (can be used harmlessly in the body), biodegradable (able to be broken down by the body) substance. PLLA has been used for more than 20 years in many surgical products, including dissolvable sutures and soft-tissue implants. BENEFITS OF SCULPTRA AESTHETIC FACIAL INJECTABLE U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved for the treatment of nasolabial folds, Sculptra Aesthetic is considered safe and effective for most patients. Because it works gradually, patients achieve a more youthful, natural-looking appearance with subtle, yet noticeable, results. Although not FDA-approved to treat them, according to manufacturer Valeant Aesthetics, Sculptra Aesthetic can be used on marionette lines (at the corners of the mouth) and chin wrinkles. Because it contains no animal, human or bacterial components, allergy testing is not necessary prior to treatment. There is little-to-no downtime after receiving Sculptra injections; most patients return to their normal activities immediately. TREATMENT AND RESULTS OF SCULPTRA AESTHETIC FACIAL INJECTABLE Sculptra Aesthetic injections are designed to be a one-time treatment. A patient can have up to 4 injection sessions, which are spread 3 weeks apart. When injected into shallow-to-deep folds and lines, the additional collagen that is produced smooths them out, and adds volume to the skin. Results of Sculptra injections vary but, in a clinical study, their effects were shown to last for up to 2 years in most patients. SIDE EFFECTS OF SCULPTRA AESTHETIC FACIAL INJECTABLE Possible side effects of Sculptra injections include localized bleeding, tenderness, discomfort, redness, bruising and swelling. Side effects usually fade within a few days, although can last longer. According to Valeant Aesthetics, “Other side effects may include small lumps under the skin that are sometimes noticeable when pressing on the treated area. Larger lumps, some with delayed onset with or without inflammation or skin discoloration, have also been reported.”

Intense pulse light or IPL is a laser treatment that is used to treat skin conditions and remove signs of photoaging like uneven texture, spots, and wrinkles. As one of the most popular non-invasive treatment options out there, it’s no wonder that more and more patients keep coming back for more. HOW MANY IPL TREATMENTS WILL I NEED? Depending on your skin type and your concerns, we usually recommend that patients undergo a series of five treatments that are spaced about four weeks apart. In some instances, we may recommend some additional sessions but we will go over all of that in detail during your initial consultation. HOW LONG DOES EACH SESSION TAKE? On average, each session takes about 20-30 minutes but that can vary from patient to patient. IS IPL RIGHT FOR ME? The best way for you to determine whether or not IPL is right for you is by scheduling a consultation with our office. During your consultation we will go over your skin concerns and discuss the different treatment options that you have available to you including IPL. DOES IPL WORK ON ALL SKIN TYPES? Lighter skinned people who don’t use self-tanning products or who do not have a history of excessive tanning respond better to IPL than other patients. However, we will be able to give you a more definitive answer during your consultation. HOW DOES IPL WORK? IPL works in a similar way that laser works. But how? Like with laser, IPL uses energy that is absorbed into the targeted cells in the skin that have pigmentation. Specifically, when the light energy comes in contact with the skin, it turns into heat energy which causes damage to specific areas of the skin like sun spots or age spots. Once these areas are heated up, the skin responds by creating newer healthier skin in the process. WHAT CAN IPL TREAT? One of the many unique benefits of IPL is that it can be used to treat a variety of different skin concerns including: Rosacea Facial flushing Red chests and necks Brown spots Sun damage Enlarged pores Spider veins WHAT IS RECOVERY LIKE? Typically, patients can go right back to their normal activities including wearing makeup and exercising. We do, however, encourage patients to avoid any sun exposure because it may cause unwanted pigmentation. ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS OF IPL? Usually there are no side effects of IPL but some patients may appear to have a sunburn for a few hours after treatment. Other rare side effects of IPL include blistering, unwanted changes in pigmentation, scarring, swelling, and infection. IS IPL EXPENSIVE Depending on the provider that you end up going with, it will determine how expensive it is going to be. Overall, IPL is more affordable than other treatments. To learn more about IPL and whether or not it’s a good treatment for you, schedule a consultation appointment at our office today and we will get you taken care of.
Laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure that uses pulsed laser energy to remove unwanted hair from a targeted area, while leaving surrounding skin unharmed. Common areas on which laser hair removal is performed are the chin, upper lip, chest, underarms, back, bikini line and legs. Although there are many temporary treatments, including tweezing, shaving, using depilatory creams and waxing, to remove unwanted hair, patients seeking more permanent and less irritating/painful methods are frequently good candidates for laser hair removal. Through what is a safe and usually painless procedure, hair can be removed from nearly any area of the body (the eye area is an exception because of the possibility of serious eye damage). CANDIDATES FOR LASER HAIR REMOVAL Because the laser beams used to remove hair target its melanin (pigment), the best candidates have dark hair and light skin. Conversely, those with blond, red, gray or white hair and dark skin are usually not good candidates. Recent technological advances have made laser hair removal for those with dark skin more successful, while techniques for using lasers to effectively remove light-colored hair are being investigated. BENEFITS OF LASER HAIR REMOVAL There are many benefits to having unwanted hair removed through the use of laser therapy. They include the following: Hair is precisely targeted Procedure is quick Results are permanent (for 90 percent of patients) or long-lasting For many patients, laser hair removal is painless, although some experience minor discomfort, usually described as something like a rubber band‘s snapping against the skin. LASER HAIR REMOVAL PROCEDURE Laser hair removal is performed while the target area is numbed by a topical anesthetic. A handheld device that emits intense laser pulses is moved across the area, focusing on individual hair follicles. There are several different methods of laser hair removal, some of which combine laser impulses with radiofrequency. The appropriate method for each patient is decided in consultation with the physician administering treatment. Hair growth takes place cyclically, in three stages. The most effective laser hair removal takes place during the andogen (full-growth) stage, because the hair follicles in this stage are susceptible to laser energy. But, because all hair is not in the same stage of growth at any given time, several laser treatments, usually between three and five, spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart, are necessary. To some extent, the length of treatment depends on the texture of the patient‘s hair, and the location from which it is being removed. RECOVERY FROM LASER HAIR REMOVAL Some redness, soreness or swelling may occur immediately after laser hair removal, but they almost always disappear within a few days. Cold compresses or ice packs, moisturizers, and anti-inflammatory creams may minimize discomfort. Sun exposure should be avoided as much as possible for some period of time. COMPLICATIONS OF LASER HAIR REMOVAL The most common complication of laser hair removal is the regrowth of the unwanted hair. Frequently, however, the hair that regrows is finer and lighter than the hair that was removed. Usually, regrowth can be addressed with a few additional treatment sessions. Other complications that may arise after laser hair treatment include skin irritation such as blistering and crusting; changes in pigmentation or texture of the skin; and scarring at the removal site.

Modern technology provides a variety of successful laser resurfacing treatments for improving the condition of the skin. Laser skin treatments employ focused beams of light energy to counteract the effects on the skin of acne, aging, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, scars, or poor nutrition. Resurfacing laser treatments are safe and efficient, requiring little downtime to provide effective results. Much less invasive than dermabrasion and chemical peels, laser treatments remove damaged skin and rejuvenate the patient‘s appearance. Most of the time, such treatments are sought for the face, but may also be performed on other parts of the body. REASONS FOR LASER RESURFACING Patients seek laser resurfacing for a variety of reasons, all related to discontent with their appearance. Laser resurfacing may be performed for any of the following reasons: To decrease or eliminate wrinkles or stretchmarks To diminish the appearance of scars To rejuvenate non-responsive skin after a facelift To remove age spots or spider veins To repair sun-damaged skin To improve skin tone due to melasma or other causes To remove warts or birthmarks To decrease the size of enlarged pores To remove tattoos TYPES OF LASER RESURFACING There are two basic types of laser resurfacing treatments: ablative and non-ablative. ABLATIVE LASER RESURFACING Ablative laser treatments, which penetrate more deeply, actually cause a wound, since they remove a layer of skin. Since ablative resurfacing actually vaporizes a layer of the skin, it provides more dramatic results and requires fewer sessions, but also requires a longer period of healing. NON-ABLATIVE RESURFACING Non-ablative treatments do not burn away skin tissue, but use laser energy to stimulate collagen growth and tighten underlying skin. Non-ablative resurfacing is gentler than ablative and requires less downtime, but may necessitate more treatment sessions and may yield less dramatic results. In general, non-ablative laser treatments are used when the repair needed is less extensive. Also, non-ablative treatments are recommended for people of color for whom ablative resurfacing may be more likely to cause unsightly changes in pigmentation. A form of ablative resurfacing known as fractional ablative laser is now increasingly in use. This procedure targets more specific regions so that laser microbeams pinpoint and peel away smaller areas of skin. During fractional laser surfacing, no visible wounds are caused, so, although results are more noticeable, less downtime is necessary than after conventional ablative treatments. For some individuals, fractional ablative laser resurfacing represents the best of both worlds. THE LASER RESURFACING PROCEDURE Laser treatments for skin conditions are typically performed in the doctor‘s office with topical anesthesia. Procedures typically take between 30 and 90 minutes to perform, depending on the size and location of the treated area. While some individuals will notice significant results after just one treatment, particularly with ablative procedures, many patients will require multiple sessions in order to achieve the desired results. It is also possible that additional touch-up treatments will be needed at a future date. RISKS OF LASER RESURFACING Although laser skin treatment is considered safe for most patients and is typically performed with no long-term complications, there are certain risks associated with any type of medical procedure. While considered rare, risks may include: Infection Scarring Redness Pigmentation changes Acne Milia, tiny white bumps on the skin RECOVERY FROM LASER RESURFACING Recovery from laser resurfacing procedures varies according to the particular procedure undergone and the individual patient‘s skin type. In all cases, however, patients who have undergone these treatments should avoid sun exposure wherever possible. RECOVERY FROM NON-ABLATIVE LASER RESURFACING After treatment, patients may experience redness and peeling at the treated site as the skin heals. The duration of these side effects varies, but is commonly several days. Ice packs may ease discomfort and improve appearance. Normal activities can be resumed during healing, and makeup may be applied to camouflage any unwanted, evidence of treatment. RECOVERY FROM ABLATIVE LASER RESURFACING After ablative laser resurfacing, the treated skin will temporarily be raw, swollen and itchy and the yellowish liquid that oozes from treated areas may form crusts. After treatment, a thick ointment, such as petroleum jelly, and a watertight dressing will be applied to the affected area. If treatment has been performed on the face, the patient may be instructed to keep the head elevated during the night. Ice packs and over-the-counter pain relievers may be recommended for symptom relief. To help avoid scarring, patients are instructed not to pick at crusts or pieces of skin. Visible healing may take a week or two.

Laser lipolysis is an advanced, FDA-approved cosmetic procedure used to remove fatty tissue from localized areas of the body, and to contour those areas by tightening the affected skin. Designed specifically to target fat in parts of the body resistant to diet and exercise, lipolysis is a minimally invasive procedure, and represents a technological advance over liposuction, the original treatment for removal of localized fat. BENEFITS OF LASER LIPOLYSIS Although effective, liposuction is an invasive procedure that requires a lengthy recovery time. Laser lipolysis, on the other hand, offers effective results with minimal downtime. Just as there are several types of liposuction, there are several types of laser lipolysis. All are derived from conventional liposuction, during which unwanted fatty tissue is suctioned out of the body through small tubes called cannulas. In laser lipolysis, laser energy melts the fatty tissue before its removal, and smaller cannulas, which cause less tissue trauma, are used. Laser lipolysis, when performed as an isolated procedure, treats only small areas of the body. It is sometimes referred to as “lunchtime lipo” because it takes only an hour or two to produce effective results. When a more significant reduction of fatty tissue is required, laser lipolysis is often performed along with traditional liposuction, helping patients to achieve maximum results in just one treatment. After treatment, a patient can expect significant circumferential reduction and skin-tightening in the targeted area. Common areas treated with laser lipolysis include the waist, abdomen, back, hips, buttocks, knees, ankles, face and neck. Laser lipolysis has a number of benefits over traditional liposuction. They include: Less trauma Shorter procedure time Less scarring Less downtime Effective fat removal Skin-tightening Fewer risks and complications THE LASER LIPOLYSIS PROCEDURE The laser lipolysis procedure works along the same lines as the conventional liposuction procedure, except that it uses laser technology. Laser energy heats the fat cells, liquefying them and making them easy to remove through the smaller cannulas. This significantly reduces the trauma of the procedure. The laser also improves the treatment-area skin, causing it to tighten and conform to the body‘s new contours. Conventional liposuction often leaves skin loose and hanging. When performed on its own, laser lipolysis requires only local anesthesia, and is generally well tolerated. Depending on the size of the area treated, the procedure can last from less than an hour to several hours. Because the incision is small, no sutures are needed, and scarring is minimal. In some cases, scarring is not visible at all. A patient can return home shortly after treatment. RISKS OF LASER LIPOLYSIS Although laser lipolysis is considered safe, it is not appropriate for patients who are pregnant or regularly take certain medications. Because of the minimally invasive nature of the treatment, there is a lower risk of side effects, which include bruising, soreness, bleeding and swelling, than with conventional liposuction. Small lumps may be palpable at the treatment site, but will disappear in a short time. More serious complications are rare, but may include nausea, vomiting, fever, infection or prolonged bruising. If these symptoms are present, immediate medical intervention is required. RECOVERY FROM LASER LIPOLYSIS After laser lipolysis, patients can often return to work and other regular activities the next day. The positive effects of the procedure are immediately apparent, and the treated area, as it heals, continues to improve for several months. As with conventional liposuction, results of laser lipolysis are considered permanent unless a significant amount of weight is gained after treatment.

Chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin to make skin smoother, reduce scarring and remove blemishes. Ranging from mild to strong, there are three types of chemical peels: alphahydroxy acid (AHA), trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and phenol. The strength of each peel is tailored to the patient. Peels can be combined with other procedures, such as facelifts, for additional improvement to skin. Chemical peels may be covered by insurance if they are performed for medical rather than cosmetic reasons. Chemical peels are performed in a plastic surgeon‘s or dermatologist‘s office, or an outpatient surgical center. Anesthesia is not required because TCA and phenol have anesthetic properties, and AHA produces only a slight stinging. CHEMICAL PEEL PROCEDURE During a TCA or phenol peel, the skin is cleansed and the solution is applied, which may cause a brief stinging sensation. Petroleum jelly or a waterproof adhesive tape may be put on the skin following a phenol peel. During an AHA peel, the skin is cleansed and the solution applied; there is no need for post-peel ointment or covering. SIDE EFFECTS OF CHEMICAL PEELS A phenol or TCA peel can result in tingling or throbbing, reddened skin, a crust or scab, and significant swelling that lasts, depending on the strength of the peel used, about a week. With a phenol peel, eyes may be swollen shut at first, and the patient may be put on a liquid diet and advised to keep talking to a minimum. Any tape used is removed after a day or two. AHA peels can cause temporary stinging, redness and irritation, as well as flaking or crusting. After a chemical peel, it is essential that the skin be protected from the sun.

Morpheus8 for the face is a microneedling treatment that is quickly gaining popularity among dermatologists, aestheticians, and other providers. It uses fractional radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen production and improve the appearance of the skin. Microneedles penetrate the skin and deliver RF energy to the deeper layers during a session. This process results in a decrease in wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, and other common complexion concerns. WHAT IS MORPHEUS8? Morpheus8 for the face is a revolutionary treatment that can help improve wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging with an FDA-cleared device. Morpheus8 uses microneedling technology and radiofrequency energy to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which can help improve skin tone and texture. The Morpheus8 treatment for the face is a minimally-invasive treatment that can take place in a doctor’s office. The treatment is relatively quick, and no downtime is required afterward. Some patients may experience some redness and swelling immediately after the treatment, but this typically subsides within a few hours or days. WHAT SKIN CONCERNS CAN MORPHEUS8 TREAT? The Morpheus8 treatment is suitable for all skin tones and requires little or no downtime. Various skin concerns can be addressed with Morpheus8 treatments. When handled by an experienced individual, it can: Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles Improve the appearance of sagging skin by firming and tightening it Ensure smooth skin Ensure that pores do not appear large Relieve acne scarring and hyperpigmentation Reduce the appearance of stretch marks Remove a small amount of fat just beneath the skin (not enough to reduce facial volume significantly) Morpheus8 works by creating microscopic channels, which allow the device to deliver radiofrequency energy to the deeper layers of the skin. This energy then helps to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which are proteins that support smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin. There are also several places on the body that can benefit from the treatment, including the abdomen, buttocks, chest, arms, and knees, but it is widely used on the face and neck (particularly to treat jowls, to firm the jawline, and to enhance the area around the mouth). WHAT HAPPENS DURING A MORHPEUS8 SESSION? Prior to treatment, numbing cream may be applied to the area to make it more comfortable. On the treated area, 1-3 passes will be conducted with the Morpheus8 device. Using the special applicator with coated pins, fat and connective tissue will be gently warmed, resulting in tighter skin, reduced wrinkles, and overall rejuvenation. Most people require three treatment sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart, to achieve optimal results. The entire treatment session will last for about 30 to 60 minutes. After the treatment, you may notice some redness and swelling in the treated area, but this is normal and should resolve within a few days. MORPHEUS8 RECOVERY AND AFTERCARE Recovery from Morpheus8 is relatively easy, with only a few days of social downtime involved. For approximately one to three days following treatment, you may experience redness, itching, and swelling. You can take care of your skin after a Morpheus8 treatment by: Turning over scabbing and crusting with exfoliating cleansers and enzymatic masks Staying away from anything that irritates your skin until it has healed Avoiding direct sun exposure and using sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 Utilizing products containing growth factors, peptides, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and retinol to maintain your results after the initial healing process is complete HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE RESULTS? The inevitability of age is that cells and systems in the body degenerate. This degenerative process leads to a variety of ailments, most often causing persistent pain, stiffness and limited range of motion. By regenerating and in some cases replacing damaged cells, organs and tissues, pain and injury can be reversed to a degree. Regenerative medicine encompasses those efforts to rescue or replace damaged, diseased or dead tissue in the body. Aside from the changes that accompany aging, regenerative medicine can also be applied to the treatment of sports injuries, chronic pain, joint pain, hormonal imbalance and many other issues. An experienced regenerative medicine professional works with you to develop an effective plan to restore well-being using your body’s natural ability to stimulate healing. TYPES OF REGENERATIVE MEDICINE Regenerative medicine is a broad term covering a range of treatments. Hallmark therapies include: Stem Cell Therapy Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) IV Therapy Tissue Engineering Prolotherapy Exosomes Anti-Aging Treatments These treatments meet a wide range of needs and alleviate various symptoms. Your body uses vitamins, minerals and amino acids to provide you with energy, health and wellness. IV therapy is a good way to get these nutrients into your body while bypassing the digestive system; IV therapy provides a direct route for nutrients to reach your bloodstream. This area of regenerative medicine is beneficial as a form of maintenance and rejuvenation, or as a way to mitigate the side effects of chemotherapy, radiation and other treatments for chronic illness. WHAT IS IV THERAPY? So what does IV therapy do, anyway? In short, it delivers vitamins and minerals into your body. While the food you eat and supplements you take must first be processed by the digestive system, intravenous delivery has an unfiltered route to your cells. IV therapy provides 100 percent absorption of the minerals and vitamins in the solution, whereas supplements taken by mouth can never be absorbed this completely. HYDRATION, VITAMINS AND MINERALS Depending on the specific ingredients you want to infuse in the solution, your IV therapy can deliver hydration as well as nutrition. The benefits are many: Replenishes nutrients Supports healthy immune system Boosts energy Promotes healthy aging Boosts physical stamina and performance Prevents dehydration Detoxes the system Soothes gut problems Eases chronic pain Reduces fatigue Prevents muscle aches The IV solution may help you sleep better and prevent mood swings. It may be the right way to sharpen your focus and concentration. IV solutions can help treat and prevent the common cold and the flu. WHAT’S INCLUDED? Common IV ingredients include: B vitamins Multi-vitamin Vitamin C Vitamin D Calcium Iron Potassium Folate Magnesium Zinc Folic Acid Selenium Glutathione Alpha Lipoic Acid The solution is customized and certain add-ins can be incorporated into an existing IV offering. You may also have the option of choosing the Myers’ Cocktail, named after Dr. John Myers, who developed the IV solution in the 60s. This IV cocktail contains vitamins B and C, magnesium and calcium. It is linked to an array of beneficial outcomes, including anti-aging. It has been used to address problematic digestion, fatigue, low energy and chronic disease symptoms. Whether you are an athlete wanting to boost recovery, a person wanting to cure a hangover, or someone who is dealing with the serious symptoms of chronic illness, a Myers’ Cocktail IV may be helpful to you. WHAT IS IV TREATMENT LIKE? The treatment itself is quite comfortable. You’ll be able to relax with an audio book, listen to a podcast or check your inbox while the solution is administered. It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hours. You will get the appointment estimate ahead of time so you can plan accordingly. SCHEDULE AN IV TREATMENT Arrange an appointment today. Vitamin B12 is an important component of a healthy diet, contributing to the functioning of the brain, nerves and blood cells. While everyone requires this vitamin for healthy functioning, pregnant women and nursing mothers require somewhat more than average.Vitamin B12 is found naturally in many foods, including fish, seafood, liver, beef and dairy products and is added as a supplement to foods like cereals, to help ensure proper nutrition. The vitamin, which may also be produced in the laboratory, is usually injected into the muscle of the thigh, upper arm or hip when necessary. Dosage and frequency of injections varies depending on the patient's condition. REASONS FOR VITAMIN B12 INJECTIONS There are many reasons vitamin B12 injections may be prescribed or recommended. In some cases, patients may be deficient in the vitamin and suffering symptoms, while in others, B12 may be considered potentially helpful in preventing or treating certain conditions. VITAMIN B12 DEFICIENCIES Vitamin B12 is necessary for patients with a low serum level of vitamin B12 because they take particular medications or because they suffer from: Pernicious anemia Gastrointestinal or autoimmune disorders Alcoholism Patients may also have low levels of vitamin B12 if they have had bariatric surgery, are strict vegetarians, or have used antacids or proton pump inhibitors for a prolonged period. Vitamin B12 deficiency is also more frequently found in individuals of advanced age. CONDITIONS VITAMIN B12 PREVENTS OR IMPROVES Vitamin B12 is believed to be helpful in preventing or improving the following conditions: Memory loss, Alzheimer's disease, or other dementia Fatigue or lack of concentration Weakened immune system Heart, kidney and liver disease Infertility Osteoporosis Allergies or asthma Tinnitus Skin disorders Lyme disease As an alternative to being injected with vitamin B12 for these conditions, patients are sometimes offered B12 supplements to be taken orally or applied as nasal gels. In many cases, though, patients' disorders prevent them from absorbing the B12 unless it is administered by injection. SYMPTOMS OF VITAMIN B12 DEFICIENCY Vitamin B12 deficiency results in symptoms common to a variety of disorders, so blood work and other diagnostic testing may be necessary to rule out other problems. Symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency include: Anemia Intestinal disorders and weight loss Fatigue, weakness, lightheadedness Memory loss or confusion Depression or dementia Rapid heartbeat and respiration Mouth or tongue soreness or bleeding Excessive bruising Injections are the most effective means of administration of vitamin B12 since they do not depend on the body's ability to absorb the substance through the gastrointestinal tract. Although vitamin B12 injections can increase energy and improve quality of life for individuals with a deficiency, patients whose vitamin B12 levels are normal will not have improved health from this treatment.

The aging process is one of those things in life that is truly inevitable. Although nothing can stop you from getting older, you can take certain steps to age gracefully and age well. Taking good care of your body is a great way to encourage youthful vitality from the inside, out. While treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic effectively soften the signs of aging at a skin-deep level, a healthy lifestyle combined with regenerative therapy address aging at a cellular level. THE BEST ANTI-AGING: EATING WELL AND EXERCISE! Sometimes the most basic measures are the ones we don’t want to take. Eating well, staying active, limiting the unhealthy habits in your life – all of these basics are a good way to age well. In advanced age, it’s also important to stay socially connected. All too often our senior citizens become isolated. Stay in touch with old friends and seek out new friendships. It’s an important part of overall wellness. MICRO-NEEDLING FACIAL WITH PRP Platelet-rich plasma injections are used to stimulate healing in deteriorating or injured joints, tendons and ligaments. And PRP can also be used for facial rejuvenation! Your blood is made up of red and white blood cells, and platelets and plasma. By isolating the platelets, we can introduce concentrated growth factors directly to tissue. When applied to the skin, these platelets work to refresh, revive and stimulate firm, youthful skin. First, micro-needling is performed to open up the skin. A handheld device containing tiny needles gently creates micro-punctures in the surface of the skin. In so doing, micro-needling makes the skin more receptive to the topical application of PRP. HORMONE THERAPY Hormones – particularly estrogen, progesterone and testosterone – naturally decline as we age. These hormonal imbalances are in part responsible for some of the less desirable effects of aging: weight gain, sleeplessness, loss of lean muscle, fatigue, impaired concentration. By introducing specific hormones into the body, we can level out some of these imbalances. First, blood work must be completed to get accurate levels and to see which hormones could use a boost. Hormones may be administered via implantable pellet, a pill or a topical cream. Over time, you should start feeling a reduction in the undesirable symptoms listed above as your hormones are replenished. ASSESSING YOUR GOALS AND TREATMENT OPTIONS Arrange a consultation if you are ready to learn more about anti-aging treatments using regenerative medicine techniques. PRP, hormonal therapy and other methods may be the right way to restore youthfulness from the inside out!
